The Ingredients
Miso Compound Butter
• 4 tablespoons (½ stick) butter, at room temperature
• 2 tablespoons of your favorite miso paste. We like to use White Miso. It is also called "Shiro" miso
• Freshly ground pepper (optional)
Salmon
• 2 6oz Salmon filets (skin on or off is your preference)
• Salt & pepper to season
• 2 tablespoons of Miso Compound Butter
• 1/2 teaspoon of sesame seeds for garnish
• 1 teaspoon of green onion for garnish
The Method
Miso Compound Butter
Step 1
Combine all ingredients until well incorporated.
Notes
1. This can be used on more than just fish. Can be added to any dish to add "umami" or more depth of flavor.Â
2. Favorite add-ins to this compound butter -- roasted garlic, ginger, lemon zest, chives, or fresh thyme. The possibilities are endless.
Salmon
Step 1
Pat dry both Salmon fillets and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 2
In a pan, add about 1 tablespoon of avocado or olive oil and turn the heat up to medium-high. Once the pan is hot, add in the salmon and pan fry for 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
Step 3
Add your desired amount of miso butter, put the lid on, and let it cook for another 2 to 3 minutes or until cooked through.
Step 4
Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds.
Notes
1. Serve with roasted Japanese Squash or any Squash of your choice
2. Fragrant Jasmine rice pairs well with this dish
3. Saute shittake or button mushrooms with the Miso Compound Butter and pour on top of the salmon.
